Privacy Policy

NeverFar was built so people who are far apart could still watch something together. This page explains, plainly, what happens to your information when you use it — not because a lawyer told us to, but because you're often watching this with someone you trust, and that trust should extend to the app itself.

There are no accounts

NeverFar doesn't have sign-up, login, passwords, or profiles. You pick a display name when you join a room, and that's it. We don't collect your email, your real name, or any identity information, because we never ask for it.

What we actually collect

• Your display name — whatever you type in when joining. It exists only for the life of that room and isn't tied to anything else about you.
• Your IP address — used briefly, in memory only, to prevent spam and abuse (rate-limiting). It's never written to a database or disk, and it's gone the moment the server restarts.
• Videos you upload — stored temporarily on the server so everyone in your room can watch in sync. Deleted automatically the moment everyone leaves the room, with a 3-day automatic cleanup as a backup for anything that slips through.
• Chat messages — kept only for the life of the room (up to 3 days if the room stays active), and tied to the room, not to you personally.
• Video/audio calls — these connect directly between your device and the other person's (peer-to-peer). The actual call audio/video never passes through or is stored on our server — only brief technical handshake data does, just long enough to connect the call.

What we don't do

• No cookies.
• No analytics or tracking scripts of any kind.
• No advertising networks.
• We never sell, rent, or share your data with anyone.

Your browser stores two small things locally on your own device (not sent to us as tracking data): a random ID that lets you reconnect smoothly if your connection drops mid-call, and your light/dark theme preference. Neither ever leaves your browser except to say "it's me again" if you briefly disconnect and rejoin the same room.

Third-party services we rely on

NeverFar runs on hosting infrastructure (currently Hugging Face Spaces) and, when configured, an optional Redis database used only to keep a room's chat and video state alive if the server restarts — with the same 3-day expiry as everything else. Video/audio calls may use a STUN/TURN relay service to help establish a peer-to-peer connection across difficult networks; this service can see connection metadata (like IP addresses, not your video content) only for the duration of setting up the call.

Children's privacy

NeverFar isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has used the service in a way that concerns you, contact us and we'll address it.

Changes to this policy

If anything meaningful changes about how NeverFar handles data, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will reflect it. There's no mailing list to notify, since we don't collect emails — checking back here is the way to stay current.
